What is Turista Libre?

Founded in 2009 by a US journalist who relocated from Ohio to Tijuana, the core goal of Turista Libre — "Free Tourist" — is to experience the many facets of Mexico less like an outsider and more like an insider.

Itineraries take their inspiration from various iconic pastimes typically reserved for locals, and the themes of our public treks rotate from weekend to weekend.

You'll visit museums, markets, concerts, sporting events, parks, breweries, wineries, gastronomic gems, architectural delights and other cultural hotspots, allowing you to savor an authentic side of a country and culture unlike any other, free of its obvious stereotypes and cliches.

Tijuana is our home base and the majority of our treks happen in and around the Baja California city — Mexico's fourth largest — but we also offer customized private experiences in Mexico City, Monterrey and Ciudad Juarez, too.

We look forward to having you with us south of the border soon. In the meantime, check out what the rest of the world is saying about us on Trip Advisor and Yelp via the links below.

¡Saludos!
